CNJ History

The Central New Jersey Chapter became an association in November 29, 1942.  The first meeting was held thanks to Nancy Williams (Alpha Rho- Ohio Wesleyan) and her huge efforts to establish this group in New Jersey.  The March 1942 issue of the Anchora is the first published record of Central New Jersey having its first and second meetings.  Unfortunately, the association disbanded in 1943 because of World War II.

In May 15, 1979, the petition to reinstate Central New Jersey as an alumnae association was approved.  The association was awarded the Premier Alumnae Association Award in 1983, and received a trip to attend the Delta Gamma Convention in Atlanta.  The group changed its status from "association" to "chapter" in February 1, 1988 with approximately 30 members.  The chapter lend its support to the establishment and installation of the Epsilon Psi- Rutgers chapter in 1985.

In November 16, 2019, 13 alumnae members came together for a sit-down luncheon to celebrate the chapter's 40th anniversary.  Central New Jersey, or "CNJ" for short, has been a thriving alumnae chapter in the central region of New Jersey.  We have members residing in over 100 different towns throughout the state and have graduated from over over 250 different collegiate chapters across the country.  Even though our chapter first started in the '40s, it has been a thriving chapter since it was reinstated in the '70s.
